Managing By Program Affords Increased Benefits

As organizations grow more comfortable and skilled with their project management capabilities, savvy executives and project managers realize that there maturity brings the opportunity for improvement.  By grouping related projects together and managing them as a single entity, organizations can improve on the business benefit realized by each project and the program as a whole.  This quest, for optimization of benefit, can help the organization gain the most return for their investment.  In addition, managing programs as a single, unified whole provides opportunities for growth and development within the project management career path.  The profession has begun to acknowledge the importance of this movement through new certifications and organizational maturity models.

The process of transforming the organization from a single project focus to one of gaining the benefits of managing by program is a significant effort.  It requires skilled professionals who are able to gain and then apply knowledge to better manage the organization’s initiatives. This workshop will provide participants with the knowledge needed to fully understand program management and its primary business drivers – benefits management, stakeholder management, and program governance.  It will also provide a foundation of knowledge appropriate to prepare for the Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification process.  The course will be a mix of hands on training and group breakout exercises that allow participants the opportunity to apply concepts learned in a stress free, safe classroom environment.

Prerequisites

Workshop participants should have a strong understanding of Project Management and a familiarity with PMI’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
